**Prolific is legitimate, and it is one of the few platforms in this category where that answer needs almost no qualification.

It is a research participant marketplace used by universities and companies, it enforces a minimum hourly rate on the researchers who post studies, and it pays cash rather than points.

This is the single most common complaint, and it is usually not a fault.

Studies are targeted. A researcher recruiting left handed bilingual undergraduates will exclude almost everyone.

Your visibility depends entirely on how much of your profile you have completed, because unanswered questions mean you cannot match filters that use them.

The fix is mechanical.

Work through the about you questions comprehensively, including the ones that feel irrelevant, and keep them updated when your circumstances change.

Participants who complete the full set see materially more invitations than those who fill in the basics.

Timing also matters.

Studies post throughout the working day in the researcher's timezone, which for the largest user base means European and North American working hours.

Checking once in the evening will miss most of them.

Approvals, rejections and the score

Your approval rate is the most valuable thing you own on the platform.

Many studies filter for participants above a high threshold, so a small number of rejections can quietly cut your access.

Rejections mainly happen for failed attention checks, submissions with no completion code, and answers that suggest you did not read the task.

Returning a study you decided not to finish is the correct action and is not the same as a rejection, though returning constantly is also visible.

Protective habits: read instructions properly rather than skimming, never open a study you do not have time to finish, always submit the completion code, and take screenshots when something goes wrong technically.

Money is credited after the researcher approves the submission, which can be immediate or take days depending on how attentive they are.
